Tefal Quick Cup review
Tefal Quick Cup s have recieved some damning reviews online - however I think this is a great product with a couple of caveats...
- The first thing is the water is not boiled - making it no good for sterilising purposes. If that is of no concern then also bear in mind that on a freezing day there's nothing quite like a boiling hot cuppa which you have to blow on before you can drink it. The Quick Cup produces a hot drink which is ready for the drinking immediately.
- The second thing to mention is the noise!! On a hollow base such as a kitchen work surface mounted over a cupboard unit the pump vibrations can amplify and sound like someone drilling through a wall.
- Lastly the speed - they state in the inspiring advertisements that you can get hot water in 3 seconds but I would say this is slightly misleading - It takes more like 20 seconds to fill a cup, so there's no time saving if you are making a pot of tea or a batch of drinks for your guests. As you stand over the machine pressing buttons you start to long for your old scaly kettle - only comforted by the fact that you are 'helping the environment'.
In answer to some reviews which stated the temperature drops over time - read the instructions as they do warn of this and recommend regular cartridge changes and cleaning.
The cartridge is not found in the obvious supermarket chains but can be found online quite easily please read my article on where to buy a Tefal Quick Cup Claris Refill Cartridge.
All in all this has to be the future of boiling water but it reminds me of when I upgraded from an old hot water tank boiler to a Combi-boiler - it's not the be-all and end-all, and there could be some development work still to do before everyone accepts them as a better method.
